Occasionally on the 24.04 test image, gnome-shell starts up in overview mode despite the ubuntu-dock extension supposedly disabling that behavior. To work around that intermittent issue, wait for gnome-shell to be up and running, check if the overview is active, and turn it off if it is, using gnome-shell's dbus interface.
