64170b63af Bug 1386445 - Early about:newtab pages are missing message APIs because RemotePages registers too late. r=mossop 
This moves AboutNewTab.init from nsBrowserGlue.js handling of "browser-delayed-startup-finished" into aboutNewTabService.js so that when the service is loaded once from the main thread probably by browser.js towards the beginning of _delayedStartup just before potentially calling gBrowser.loadTabs, the service triggers the attaching of RemotePages(about:newtab) before any about:newtab pages load.

Additionally even when RemotePages starts early enough, Activity Stream might not borrow the RemotePages instance early enough to catch the RemotePage:Load message, so to simulate that, RemotePages now remembers when a port has been loaded for consumers to check. Adds tests to confirm the expected properties on the port and value of loaded at the various RemotePage:* messages.

Makes initing Places services cheaper, by delaying the connection creation to the first time
it's actually needed.
Same way, delays reading the bookmark roots at the first time they are requested.
Deprecates the concept of lazy observers, since they are no more needed, we can just use addObserver.
Simplifies the startup path: always sends "places-init-complete" (both as a category and a topic) when
the connection starts and adds a "locked" database state when we can't get a working connection.
Makes PlacesCategoriesStarter register for the new category, since it's cheaper than being a bookmarks
observer.
Fixes a couple race conditions in keywords and expiration due to new startup timings.
Removes a test in test_keywords.js that is no more easily feasible, since it'd requires a pre-build
places.sqlite that should be kept up-to-date at every version.

82301632cc Bug 1359733 - (pt. 2) Refactor gMenuButtonUpdateBadge r=rstrong 
Since we now have a store of notifications that is global across
all windows, it no longer makes sense to consume the API from
within browser.js. This patch moves the browser.js logic out into
a jsm file that is wired up through nsBrowserGlue, such that it
will be lazily instantiated on the first update event it would
receive[1].

We decided to move this into toolkit, as this piece of the
system is fairly generic and shouldn't differ between
applications.

[1]: There is a change to nsBrowserGlue to use "global[module]"
instead of this[module]. This mirrors the code for all the other
types of notifications, and I suspect it was just a latent bug,
since the original diff that includes this line makes no use of
it.

bf01ad5128 Bug 1362212 - Call HTMLMediaElement.reportCanPlayTelemetry on idle once after browser startup. r=mconley 
This causes Gecko to collect telemetry as to whether we can create H.264/AAC
decoders off main thread in the parent process. This means we won't do the I/O
required to load decoding libraries on the main thread any more, and we'll only
do this at a time that doesn't affect the user.

3517459260 Bug 1352069 - Introduce a pref that allows for disabling cosmetic animations r=jaws 
This rolls browser.tabs.animate, browser.fullscreen.animate, and
alerts.disableSlidingEffect into a single pref; if any of these are disabled,
we'll disable the new pref too (toolkit.cosmeticAnimations.enabled). Most
future animations will also be subject to this pref.

290c64c982 Bug 1309946 - remove all traces of add-on performance monitoring, r=Yoric 
This removes all the code for add-on performance watching from the
perfmonitoring component. This should mean that for add-on
compartments, we no longer trigger jank or CPOW monitoring in the JS
engine. This should result in minor performance improvements. As a
result, about:performance no longer reports on add-on performance
(but still reports on web page performance).

It also removes the AddonWatchers.jsm module and the related Nightly-
only UI (disabled in the parent commit) and strings. This UI wasn't
ready for release, there wasn't sufficient data it was creating
value for users, and there was some evidence that it didn't always
correctly identify the cause of performance issues, thus potentially
leading to user confusion or annoyance. Removing it therefore seemed
the right thing to do.

The FX_PREFERENCES_CATEGORY_OPENED probe must be extended to version 59 to support the fallback "forked" preference implementation (in-content-old).

The switchToAdvancedSubPane within utilityOverlay's openPreferences must also remain until the fallback has been removed (bug 1349689).

a1373abd45 Bug 1320481 - thumbnails cache not cleared with clear history on shutdown. r=Felipe 
The "places-shutdown" notification is not a good time to remove observers, since
history notifications (and in particular onClearHistory) may happen at the same
time (The sanitizer runs at "profile-change-teardown" that is basically the same
as "places-shutdown").
We can't ensure proper order of these calls, the safest/simplest thing is just
to keep a weak reference and continue observing.

a72fb9ba66 Bug 1291277 - Don't show pending crash reports notification on Release or Beta channnels. r=jaws 
We were displaying this notificaton on all channels except Release before,
but UX wants us to suppress this on Beta for now until we have a better
sense of our population on that channel.

918237b0ca Bug 1227230 - Remove all of the e10s prompting code. r=jimm 
This removes all of the e10s-related prompting code, including:
- doorhanger offering to opt-in into e10s
- pref and telemetry probe used to measure the number of users who remained opted-in
- dialog that shows up when unchecking the e10s checkbox saying that a tab will open, requesting feedback
- tab opening requesting feedback
- all related strings

The checkbox in the preferences window remains (nightly/aurora only), as well as the message saying that e10s requires a restart.

The e10s accessibility doorhanger remains. and chrome://browser/skin/e10s-64@2x.png remains too because it's also used in the a11y doorhanger.
