b3f08bf9bd Bug 1763672 - Introduce targetTopLevelLinkClicksToBlank on BrowsingContext. r=nika
This property defaults to false. When set to true, user-initiated link clicks in
the top-level BrowsingContext will default target to _blank. This is similar to what
we do for App Tabs, but is slightly more aggressive in that in will also occur for
same-origin navigations.

6502ebf4b6 Bug 1608307 - remove redundant flags parameters from nsISiteSecurityService r=jschanck,necko-reviewers,kershaw
Before this patch, nsISiteSecurityService APIs took "flags" parameters that
differentiated private contexts from not private contexts. However, these
parameters were redundant with respect to origin attributes, which led to some
confusion for consumers of these APIs. This patch removes these parameters in
favor of using origin attributes.

61f7e59993 Bug 1747033 - "Back" does not work correctly for pages with multipart/x-mixed-replace and history.replaceState. r=smaug,necko-reviewers,valentin
multipart/x-mixed-replace loads don't start a new load for parts other than the first,
they just call OnStartRequest/OnStopRequest for every part. The nsDocShell code was
trying to set the active entry to the loading entry for these loads, but because we
never started a new load after the first part, the loading entry would be null and we'd
just clear the active entry. history.replaceState would then try to replace the active
entry, but finding none it would just add a new one.

14f1eabde6 Bug 1745638, allow stopping session history load to an iframe, r=peterv
The previous version had two issues:
It revealed an issue in the old implementation which causes an assertion to fire.
There was also a problem with mDocumentRequest, so the new approach tries to be less clever
and just adds a new boolean member variable mCheckingSessionHistory,
which GetIsAttemptingToNavigate() then uses.

649a5b63d8 Bug 1701828 - meta charset rewrite. r=smaug
Implements https://github.com/whatwg/html/issues/6962 . Improves performance
when <meta charset> occurs in head but after the first kilobyte and aligns
behavior better with WebKit and Blink.

The main change is to avoid reloads when meta appears within head but
after the first kilobyte. Prior to this change, Gecko reloaded in that
case (in compliance with the spec!) even though WebKit and Blink did not.

Differences from WebKit and Blink:

* WebKit and Blink honor <meta charset> in <noscript>. This implementation
  does not.
* WebKit and Blink look for meta as if the tree builder was unaware of
foreign content. This implementation is foreign content-aware. This
makes a difference for CDATA sections that contain a > before the meta
as well as style and script elements within foreign content. This could
happen if the CDATA section that has mysteriously been introduced around
a what looks like a meta tag also contains another prior tag-looking
  run of text.
* This implementation processes rel=preload and speculative loads that are
seen before <meta charset> has been seen. WebKit and Blink instead first
look for the meta and rewind before starting speculative parsing.
* Unlike WebKit, if there is neither an honored meta nor syntax resembling
an XML declaration, detection from content takes place (as in Blink).
* Unlike Blink, if there is neither an honored meta nor syntax resembling
an XML declaration, the detection from content is not dependent of network
  buffer boundaries.
* Unlike Blink, detection from content can trigger a reload at the end of
the stream if the guess made at that point differs from the first guess.
(See below for the definition of the input to the first guess.)

Differences from the old spec and Gecko previously:

* Meta inside script and RCDATA elements is no longer honored.
* Late meta is now ignored and no longer triggers a reload.
* Later meta counts as early enough meta: In addition to the previous
meta within the first 1024 bytes, now a meta that started within the first
1024 bytes counts as early enough. Additionally, if by then there hasn't
been a template start tag and head hasn't ended, meta occurring before the
earlier of the end of the head or a template start tag counts as early
  enough.
* Meta now counts as not-late even if the encoding label has numeric
  character reference escapes.
* Syntax resembling an XML declaration longer than a kilobyte is honored if
  there is no honored meta.
* If there is neither an honored meta nor syntax resembling an XML declaration,
the initial chardetng scan is potentially longer than before: the first 1024
bytes, the token spanning the 1024-byte boundary if there is such a token,
and, if by then head hasn't ended and there hasn't been a template start tag
until the end of the template start tag or the end of the token that causes
head to end, ever comes first. However, if the token implying the end of the
head is a text token, bytes only to the end of the previous non-text token is
considered. (This definition avoids depending on network buffer boundaries.)
* XML View Source now uses the code for syntax resembling an XML declaration
instead of expat for extracting the internal encoding label.

Reftest are added as both WPT and Gecko reftests in order to test both http:
and file: URL scenarios. The Gecko tests retain the WPT <link> tags in order
to use the exact same bytes.

An encoding declaration has been added to a number of old tests that didn't
intend to test the new speculation behavior especially in the context of
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1727750 .

e3e09e1fdf Bug 1731999 - Part 3: Enable partitioned service workers. r=pbz
This patch enables partitioned service workers in third-party contexts.
Doesn't like before, we will allow service workers to be registered even
the third-party contexts don't have storage access and the registered
service workers will be partitioned by the top-level site.

You can control this by using the pref 'privacy.partition.serviceWorkers'.
Setting this to true will enable the partitioning, otherwise, it will
still use the old behavior.

28430fb0d3 Bug 1733902 - part1 : create a new sync attribute on top-level browsing context for whether we should delay media from starting, and use it to replace the old attribute on outer windows. r=nika, emilio
Brief recap:
Before we have blocking autoplay, we had a feature which will delay media from start if the tab hasn't been visited by users, in order to prevent an unvisited background tab suddenly play sounds, which is annoying and might be unexpected to users.

In this patch:
The attribute we use to check whether we need to delay media is on the outer window, which is not Fission compatible if the top level window and its child windows are on the different process.

If the top level window has been visited, then all its child window should follow the same result. Therefore, we need to move the attribute to the browsing context in order to sync it across different windows.

This is not fixing the issue with session store where the flag is lost.
Also, I think SessionHistoryEntry should probably store a timestamp and not just a flag, but that
would change the behavior more vs. the old implementation.

479107443c Bug 1644914 - Give out user interactions to session history entries when system principal initiates a load. r=smaug
This is a pretty cheap way of fixing this bug by saying nsDocShell::loadURI calls
done with a system principal will add user interaction to the current page. This takes
advantage of the fact that all UI code for loading URIs goes through this code path.

Note that during debugging I've found other cases where SH entries would be added with
a system principal, most notably when navigating to URL hashes/fragments (example.com#hash).
I'm not sure why this is happening but it doesn't go through nsDocShell::loadURI.

0cb68caed4 Bug 1729662 - UNED exam page flickers / reloads infinitely. r=smaug
When we navigate in history to the same entry that we're current at then we
actually do a reload. The problem is in the way we detect whether to do a reload
in the parent process.

If a page does a back and a forward one after the other in a script, then the
parent will calculate the index for the back and tell the child to load the
entry at that index. While the child is processing the load of that entry, the
BC in the parent process still has the same entry as its active entry (until the
child commits the load of the entry over IPC). The parent then processes the
forward, calculates the index for the forward and finds the entry at that index.
This is the same entry that we were at before doing anything, and so the same
entry as the active entry in the BC in the parent process. We used to compare
the entry that we're going to load with the active entry in the BC to determine
whether we're doing a reload, and so in this situation we would assume the
forward navigation was actually doing a reload. The child would reload the page,
and we'd run the script again and we'd end up in a reload loop.

Comparing the offset with 0 to determine whether we're doing a reload fixes this
issue.

This version doesn't change SetContainer handling, since it seems to be tricky for the top level page.
So only activity change notification is fired and IsActive() is updated.
The comment about IsActive() was wrong even with the old bfcache implementation.
(I did check that it returned false when the page was in bfcache and many of the activity observers rely on that)

The changes to HTMLMediaElement are needed to ensure page can enter bfcache..

(The old implementation hides it quite well).
The changes to HTMLMediaElement are needed to ensure page can enter bfcache.

Removed erroneous MOZ_ASSERT in nsPresContext, it is ok to trigger that code path in the new implementation.
And the Run() method of the relevant nsIRunnable already deals with that case.

Getting all the requests from the loadgroup every time a request
is added or removed was causing performance issues. It turns out
that it wasn't really needed for determining if a page should be
blocked from the BFCache, since we just need to know if there
are any requests in the loadgroup, and if so, if all it contains
is just one request with an id. We can keep a count of relevant
requests in the loadgroup. When the count changes to 1, on adding
we can inspect the request that's being added, and on removal we
can inspect the requests in the loadgroup (which should be now be
cheap enough, since there's only 1 relevant request in the list).

d9f3a1519c Bug 1701303 - Move counting of private browsing contexts to parent process. r=smaug, johannh
Move the counting of private browsing contexts to the parent
process. Also change to only consider non-chrome browsing contexts
when counting private contexts. The latter is possible due to bug
1528115, because we no longer need to support hidden private windows.

With counting in the parent process we can make sure that when we're
changing remoteness on a private browsing context the private browsing
context count never drops to zero. This fixes an issue with Fission,
where we remoteness changes could transiently have a zero private
browsing context count, that would be mistaken for the last private
browsing context going away.

Changing to only count non-chrome browsing contexts makes us only fire
'last-pb-context-exited' once, and since we count them in the parent
there is no missing information about contexts that makes us wait for
a content process about telling us about insertion or removal of
browsing contexts.

3ff4296a89 Bug 1209947 - Part 2: Fire location change events for all subframe navigations, r=smaug,Gijs
The check in this function was added in bug 82236 to avoid an issue in the
mozilla suite where the UI would update to a subframe's URI. This came up
previously in bug 1206879 when we observed we weren't sending OnLocationChange
events when we were expecting, which was causing issues for pushState location
changes. A workaround was added in that bug to avoid the issue for the specific
case of pushState.

This patch removes the redundant check, and reverts the workaround added in that
bug. Unfortunately, we aren't able to fully remove nsISHEntry::GetIsSubframe, as
it is now used by Browser{Parent,Child}::CanCancelContentJS.

9a08f751a4 Bug 1689601, nested freeze/thaw, r=peterv
Non-SHIP bfcache seems to be rather complicated here, since it needs to explicitly store inner windows and what not.
SHIP should be able to handle this in a simpler way.
It is possible that some ordering needs still tweaking.

8002a3c48c Bug 1678255 - prompt for external protocol links whose loads were also triggered externally, instead of looping forever, r=pbz, nika
This passes around the "are we external" bit of load information a bunch,
such that the external protocol handling code has access to it.

In this bug and bug 1667468, I think ideally I would have used a check
if we're the OS default for a given protocol before continuing. However,
this information is currently unavailable on Linux (bug 1599713), and
worse, I believe is likely to remain unavailable in flatpak and other
such restricted environments (cf. bug 1618094 - we aren't able to find
out anything about protocol handlers from the OS).

So instead, we prompt the user if we are about to open a link passed
to us externally. There is a small chance this will be Breaking People's
Workflows, where I don't know whether anyone relies on Firefox happily
passing these URIs along to the relevant application (more convenient
than doing all the registry/API work yourself in scripts!) or anything
like that. To help with that, there's a pref,
`network.protocol-handler.prompt-from-external`, that can be created and
set to false to avoid prompting in this case.

d871818995 Bug 1691214 - Take focus from window.open etc even if we're already active but not in the active window. r=hsivonen
With multiple windows, a browsing context being active doesn't guarantee
being in the active window, so we explicitly check for that. We need to
introduce an special case for the initial document because the initial
document in the active window requesting focus breaks focusing the
urlbar on a new window.

8ec2442bf5 Bug 1647519: Reject javascript: requests targeting other content processes. r=nika
Loads targeting cross-process BrowsingContexts are by definition cross-origin,
which should preclude any javascript: loads. While those loads are currently
prevented by principal checks in the final target process, sending IPC
messages for the attempts is unnecessary, and potentially opens a door to
privilege escalation exploits by a compromised content process.

This patch prevents any cross-process load requests from being sent by content
processes, and adds checks in the parent process to kill any (potentially
compromised) content process which attempts to send them.
