27b1c032a5 Bug 1451748: Always remove unloaded views from views list. r=mixedpuppy 
Contexts for active extension views are kept in a Set on the owning extension.
That list is meant to be kept current, with views added and removed as they're
created and unloaded. A refactoring at some point in the past, though, changed
that so that we only cleaned up parent views at extension shutdown, not at
view shutdown.

8ee1c6373c Bug 1451058: Save temporary popup pre-load panel for remote popups. r=mixedpuppy 
Creating the temporary panel for a pre-load popup can be expensive, especially
for OOP popups, where we need to create a compositor. Since we currently need
to create a pre-load popup every time we hover over a browser action with a
popup, it's probably worth saving and re-using them, rather than always
creating a new one.

c423cc8c0a Bug 1446250: Part 2 - Optimize/reduce calls into the Photon PageAction API. r=mixedpuppy 
Calling into the Photon PageAction API to update a property is orders of
magnitude more expensive than the simple DOM-based updates we used previously.
To make matters worse, a lot of our caching was removed during the migration,
and the Photon API introduces a lot of duplicated work when selecting icons.

This patch caches the last known state for each property to avoid calling into
the Photon APIs to update each property more than necessary, and removes the
extraneous preferred icon size calculations that the Photon code already
duplicates.

25d47480bb Bug 1443749 only reload sidebar when the url has changed r=kmag 
Regression from bug 1398713.  Before that, we reloaded the entire webext-panel.xul if the
sidebar changed.  This verifies we don't reload unecessarily as well as discards
the browser to force a runtime disconnect for the extension if it does change.

* The extension content drives the sizing of the browser and popup that contains it via the Extension:BrowserResized message. The ignoreResizes property throttles/debounces this initially, stashing the dimensions received rather than triggering resize of the popup for every message. When the popup is a subview and fixedWidth, we ignore width but *do* want to use the stashed height value.

* Until the panel is given visibility, it has 0 height, so after setting visibility, wait until the next refresh-driver tick before measuring any header which should get added to the overall view height

KeyframeEffect and KeyframeEffectReadOnly constructors can run in the caller
compartment, which is okay because the current compartment is used in the
following places and all of them are safe:

1. GlobalObject::CallerType(), that is ultimately passed to
   nsDocument::IsWebAnimationsEnabled in KeyframeEffectParamsFromUnion,
   to decide whether to copy mIterationComposite/mComposite to
   KeyframeEffectParams.

   GlobalObject::CallerType() can now be different than the target window's one,
   if the caller has the system principal and the target is web content, and
   in that case nsDocument::IsWebAnimationsEnabled there always returns true
   while Web Animations can be disabled on web content.

   honoring the mIterationComposite/mComposite properties is OK, since it just
   changes the animation behavior, and this is disabled by default until
   remaining spec issues are resolved.

2. GlobalObject::Context(), that is ultimately passed to
   KeyframeUtils::GetKeyframesFromObject and used while extracting information
   from passed-in keyframe object, with iterable/iterator protocols.

   Performing that operation in the caller side is okay, since the same thing
   can be done on caller, and the operation doesn't perform any GCThing
   allocation on the target window global.

d6729b8d28 Bug 1432614 - Remove now unnecessary updating and maintenance of Places' root folder titles. r=kitcambridge,mak 
The titles for the root bookmark folders in the database will now never get updated. This
avoids doing maintenance and changing them if the locale changes.

The UI is now responsible for displaying the correct title.

WebExtensions API will get the UI visible names.

aa82f54ab6 Bug 1435296 Address test failures caused by bumping timer precision to 2 ms r=baku 
There are a few different reasons why tests needed updating (not an exhaustive list):

- Tests assume that successive operations take place at different times.
- Tests assume that an operation took a minimum amount of time.
- Tests hardcodes a specific delay.

In most cases we hardcode the preference off. In some cases this is the best approach,
in others, we would like to improve. The bug for tracking those improvements is Bug 1429648

An improvement that is present in some tests is to hardcode a specific precision reduction
that is acceptable based on the confides of the test. (Obviously this needs to be a fix for
the test framework and not a requirement on the feature being tested.)

In a few places, the test itself can be fixed, for example to no longer require the end
time of an operation to be strictly greater than the start time, and allows it to be equal
to it.

This patch was autogenerated by my decomponents.py

It covers almost every file with the extension js, jsm, html, py,
xhtml, or xul.

It removes blank lines after removed lines, when the removed lines are
preceded by either blank lines or the start of a new block. The "start
of a new block" is defined fairly hackily: either the line starts with
//, ends with */, ends with {, <![CDATA[, """ or '''. The first two
cover comments, the third one covers JS, the fourth covers JS embedded
in XUL, and the final two cover JS embedded in Python. This also
applies if the removed line was the first line of the file.

It covers the pattern matching cases like "var {classes: Cc,
interfaces: Ci, utils: Cu, results: Cr} = Components;". It'll remove
the entire thing if they are all either Ci, Cr, Cc or Cu, or it will
remove the appropriate ones and leave the residue behind. If there's
only one behind, then it will turn it into a normal, non-pattern
matching variable definition. (For instance, "const { classes: Cc,
Constructor: CC, interfaces: Ci, utils: Cu } = Components" becomes
"const CC = Components.Constructor".)

c9ac969282 Bug 1215376 - refactor: re-use onShown event generator for onClicked r=mixedpuppy 
The logic in onClicked had some flaws:
- editable can be undefined instead of a boolean.
- linkText, linkUrl is set in non-link contexts.
- srcUrl is set even in non-media contexts.

This change does not add new tests, because test coverage for the
event data generator is provided by:
browser/components/extensions/test/browser/browser_ext_menus_events.js

There is one observable change here.
Previously, linkUrl and linkText would also be set for non-link context
if the selected text contained a URL. When this happens, then
nsContextMenu.js sets onPlainTextLink=true.
With this refactor, linkText and linkUrl are only set if the context is
"link" (onLink=true).

b3eef35a05 Bug 1421703 - replace onVisit with onVisits r=mak 
There's a heavy enough overhead to going through XPConnect for
every observer for every visit on the nsINavHistoryObserver
interface, so this patch reduces that by replacing the single-
visit notification with one which accepts an array of visits.

Some notes: To avoid problems with the orderings of the various
ways in which we notify about visits, we have to send our bulk
onVisits notification before doing any of the others. This does
mean it technically behaves slightly different than the prior
approach of interleaving the notifications, but I can't find any
way in which this has any consequences to the end result, and it
doesn't break any tests.

ba5b0824a2 Bug 1422211 - Do not try to move a tab when it is the only tab in a window, r=mixedpuppy 
The problem reported in this bug is that the newTab button moves to an invalid position when
there's only 1 tab in a window and you try to move it to the end of the tab strip via tabs.move.

This may be caused by a bug in tabbrowser, which is being investigated separately, but it
brought to light the fact that we're trying to move a tab when it's the only tab in a
window, and that just doesn't make sense.

This patch updates the code so we don't try to move a tab if it's the only tab in the
window.

9e8f1233a1 Bug 1415913 - tabs.create without a windowId should target only normal windows, r=aswan 
This introduces a new property to WindowTracker (on desktop only) called topNormalWindow
which returns the topmost window which is not a popup window. That property is then used
by tabs.create to identify the top "normal" window when a windowId is not passed to it.

Bug 1421709 has been filed to look for other opportunities to use topNormalWindow
in place of topWindow in our codebase.

The recent failures all seem to be on the assertion that lastAccessed of tab 1 is
later than the test start time. It's possible that things happen so quickly that

messages traveling from content to parent such as "MessageChannel:Messages" are

0e9d7b7ac2 Bug 1381684 - Fix intermittent browser/components/extensions/test/browser/browser_ext_tabs_lastAccessed.js, r=mixedpuppy 
This patch introduces two changes to the test:

1. It breaks apart the assertion that was combining three tests into individual assertions, so if this does
fail again in the future it will be easier to spot the actual problem.

2. It uses addTab and browserLoaded instead of openNewForegroundTab, which seems to allow the test to wait
long enough before starting the extension.

When I was able to reproduce the failure, after separating the assertions, I found the one that was failing
was the check that tab2.lastAccessed was less than the current time. I believe that the current time was being
recorded too soon, which is why I changed the test to not record the current time until after both tabs have
completed loading. This seems to fix the intermittent locally for me.

I spoke to Marco about this and it turns out the problem is due to using PlacesUtils.history.insertMany together with
PlacesTestUtils.visitsInDB. Calling the former to insert the visits and then immediately calling the latter to verify
them can result in the latter reading a snapshot of the places DB that is not up to date. The fix is to call
PlacesTestUtils.addVisits which will not return until everything is finished up and will therefore not cause
PlacesTestUtils.visitsInDB to possibly read an old snapshot.

05d1c44747 Bug 1411351 - Fix Console error "WeakMap key must be an object..." that happens when opening a new tab, r=aswan 
When the New Tab page is opened, the browser object that is passed into the isArticleChangeListener
is not a valid browser from the perspective of tabbrowser.xml, so it is not able to find it in its
_tabForBrowser map. This causes undefined to be passed into tabManager.getWrapper(), which causes
the error.

This patch fixes this by not calling tabManager.getWrapper(), and subsequently firing the onUpdate
event, if the return value from gBrowser.getTabForBrowser() is undefined. Testing shows that that
is only the case when the New Tab page is opened, and that page is not, and is unlikely to be
readerable any time in the foreseeable future (confirmed on IRC), so ignoring this case in the
listener is acceptable.

This applies the following changes:

- store a weak reference to the browser element in the WebNavigation.jsm Manager's map
  of pending CreatedNavigationTarget messages

  (e.g. it has been immediately closed), the message received from the sourceTab
  is not saved in the map of the pending CreatedNavigationTarget (and a message
  is logged in the console to make easier to investigate issues related to discarded

4bedc03a3d Bug 1406296 (part 2) - Remove the profiler's "layersdump" feature. r=mstange. 
Because it just doesn't control any behaviour within the profiler, and it just
duplicates gfxPrefs::LayersDumpTexture().

With this gone, PROFILER_FEATURE_ACTIVE can also be removed.

12d2d25576 Bug 1361080 - update webextension tests to directly use devtools loader;r=rpl 
In the end the webextensions tests that test devtools should be able to load devtools
apis in the same way as devtools tests. This allows to remove the gDevTools getter on
the devtools shim, which makes the paths that can potentially initialize devtools easier
to predict.

ef74dc495c Bug 1403466 - Don't set a max-height on panelviews used by WebExtensions, because it causes browser contents to be cut-off. r=Gijs 
Setting a max-height caused the '_handleDOMChange' method in ext-browser-content.js
to consistently lie about the scrollHeight, since it was never allowed to grow
beyond the maxHeight - even when the document needs to be larger to fit its contents.
We don't need this aggressiveness in Photon panels anyway, so that makes it
doubly safe to remove this code.

53b9116eab Bug 1404568 - Improve webext browser_action icon fallbacks. r=mixedpuppy 
Currently if there is no default icon at the specified size, the default icon
falls back to the light text icon at that size. This is wrong in two ways:
First, the default theme uses dark text, so it should fallback to the dark icon
Secondly, authors expect the unsized default_icon to be used if specified

This patch fixes both of these issues, so that the default icon first falls back
to the unsized default_icon, and then only if that is not specified falls back
to the dark icon

882fa06e25 Bug 1401991 - Ensure that we don't hide panelviews that are already reparented to another multi-view and ensure to hide other panels consistently. r=Gijs 
* Harden the new `hideAllViewsExcept()` to not do erroneous things if called when
   the binding is already gone.
 * Generalize things into `hideAllViewsExcept(thisOne)`:
    - Clear `_viewShowing` in there and do the descriptionHeightWorkaround thing
      in there too,
    - For Photon panels, do all the 'current' attribute setting in there. To show
      a panel during transition, I introduced the 'in-transition' attribute.
 * I had to make sure not to over-eagerly dispatch 'ViewShowing' events, because
   that confuses some,
 * Move the temporary panel handling, which contains an ephemeral panelmultiview
   instance, internally. This cleans up the hacky, duplicate PanelUI.js code nicely.
 * Keep a local copy of `_transitionDetails` to ensure it's still there after transition,
 * Harden `_cleanupTransitionPhase()` to only clear the phase that belongs to a
   specific transition, _if_ that's passed in as an argument. This resolves any
   potential raciness that might occur when `showSubView()` is called again mid-transition.
 * Skip the UITour element visibility check when it's inside a panelview, because
   too many things need to happen and that check is too simple to be useful in
   that case.
